M r. Krankowitz straightened up with a groan. He’d been out in front checking on his prize rose bushes. Just as he turned to go back inside a large bird flew overhead presumably heading for Mr. Faigelbaum’s back garden a haven for wildlife with its range of nesting boxes and feeders. The old man stopped to watch as the bird soared over the roof of his house.

Suddenly something caught his eye. The old man frowned. What on earth was that strange yellow blob on top of his chimney? Now he might be getting old and forgetful at times but there was one thing Mr. Krankowitz was absolutely sure about: a yellow blob had no place being anywhere on his chimney. “Humph! I bet someone’s been daubing yellow paint ” he growled crossly to himself. “It’s a disgrace that’s what it is. Bet I know who it was too.”

Mr. Krankowitz’s suspicion immediately fell upon the boys from next door Fishel and Faivish Friedman. While they’d never been known to paint graffiti before the old man had caught them in many a shenanigan in the past and besides there was a first time for everything.

Just then the boys trooped out of their front door. Mr. Krankowitz accosted them immediately.
