In Person: A Fish of My Own

Hi! My name is Binyamin and I’m 12 years old. I live in Rechovot, a city in central Israel, and I love fishing. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Rechovot, but there’s no lake, river, or sea here. There isn’t a lake, river, or sea in Yerushalayim, either, where I used to live. So you may be wondering how I decided I like fishing.

In Person: A Fish of My Own
My father thinks it’s because I had a classmate who was very into animals and he got me started but I’m not sure. I remember going to Teveria with my family and seeing fishermen along the Kinneret and thinking I wish I could try that too. At first I used to build my own fishing rods out of sticks I found lying around and fish off our back porch. Well obviously there’s no water there so I didn’t catch any fish. But when my parents saw how interested I was they took me to a fishing store in Teveria. The man in the store showed me how to use a real rod and hooks and the weights and floats that help you cast the line way out into the water.
