A Force to Be Reckoned With

Towering over all the boys in his class, Aryeh Star was a force to be reckoned with. He was big, he was loud, and he was scary. No one in his right mind would mess with him. The boys learned early on, at the beginning of the year when he joined their class, that it wasn’t worth their while.

When Yaakov explained to Aryeh that he couldn’t help him study for a Chumash test one night because his grandparents were coming to visit Yaakov’s parents got a call from the rebbi that same day complaining about finding nasty notes on everyone’s desk signed by Yaakov. “But I didn’t do it!” Yaakov protested an angry tear sliding town his cheek. “We believe you ” his parents assured him but Yaakov could see the question marks in their eyes. “But why was your name on every note?” they wanted to know. Because there’s a mean boy in my class Yaakov wanted to say. But he was afraid to speak up. What would Aryeh do to him if he got him in trouble?
