Dainty Deli Bites

YIELDS 36 DELI BITES

  • 1 pkg 36 mini frozen puff pastry squares, defrosted
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • oil, for sautéing
  • 12 oz (340 g) diced pastrami, or a combination of pastrami and any other deli meat
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp mustard
  • 1 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp sweet chili sauce
Lemon-Garlic Dipping Sauce
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cubes frozen garlic
  • 4 tsp lemon juice

Sauté onion in oil in a large frying pan until golden. Add pastrami and continue to sauté, stirring, until fragrant and heated through. Add sugar, mustard, and ketchup and stir to combine.

In a small bowl, beat egg and chili sauce. Set aside.

Heat oven to 375°F (190°C).

Working with one square of dough at a time, place a heaping tablespoonful of deli filling onto the center of the dough square. Bring all edges up and inward, pinching the dough together to form a ball. Place deli balls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush balls with beaten egg mixture and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until balls are lightly browned and puffed.

In a small bowl, combine dipping sauce ingredients and stir until smooth. Serve with the bites.
