Making Sense of Our Senses

We are used to thinking of five senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. But these aren’t the only ways in which we relate to the world around us. Scientists are studying a number of other “senses.” This week we’ll try to make sense of them all for you.

Perfect Vision First let’s take a quick look at the Big Five. Sight may be the biggest miracle of the bunch. Scientists have been studying this fantastically complex process (which we do without even thinking about it!) for decades. They’ve been able to heal some eye diseases and injuries. But only now are they beginning to understand well enough how it works to be able to help people who have become blind to see again. Each morning we thank Hashem for the miracle of vision. If you were blind how much would you pay to see? We’d give almost everything we have.
