Nursery rhymes are a favorite pastime of kids worldwide. And while kids love the rhythm and beat, there may be a great deal more to these words than we think. Since many of these rhymes are very old, we can’t know for sure. But there are many possible theories that make great reading.

Who is Humpty? If you guessed an oversized egg you might be right. Even the king’s strongest horses and smartest men can’t quite stuff a glob of yolk and egg white back into a smashed eggshell.

Then again maybe things got scrambled over the years and Humpty isn’t just a rotten egg. Some people think he’s a real fat man. In oldEngland plump people were called Humpty Dumpty so this theory made sense to some.

Others argue that Humpty Dumpty is an oversized cannon that played a major part in the Siege of Colchester during the English Civil War (1642–1649). In this war between the Royalists (who sided with King Charles I) and the Parliamentarians the Parliamentarians attackedColchester.
