Scene Two

The campfire roared merrily. Two former talmidim crouched by it, then stood up, satisfied with its progress. About one hundred yeshivah boys relaxed in a wide circle around the fire, eating supper and stretching their limbs. It had been a long day, beginning with Shacharis in Meron, continuing with a tough water hike, and then kayaking on the Yarden.

Scene Two
Reb Yanky Werner felt weariness in every bone as he leaned back on his knapsack his oldest son Chezky at his side reveling in seeing Tatty with “his” bochurim. Yanky knew he had only fifteen minutes to doze while the guys ate. Reb Avigdor Wassertzug one of the other rebbeim leaned over to indicate a group of bochurim nearby. Yanky followed his gaze and they shared a smile. It seemed like even the quietest most insecure of the boys were having a good time. Duvi Ratner came bounding over with plates of supper for the rebbeim and Yanky thanked him warmly though he ate little. Then it was time and he signaled to Chezky to bring his old guitar from under the bus.
