Thousands of Yidden were making their way along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, on their way to Yerushalayim. Yom Tov was drawing near, and Klal Yisrael was streaming to the Beis HaMikdash to fulfill the mitzvah of aliyah l’regel.
In the distance on the shimmering blue sea an old wooden ship could be seen sailing along the waters.
All of a sudden tragedy struck. A strong storm wind tossed the ship wildly on the waves and split the vessel in two! The ship began to sink rapidly and the passengers frantically flailed about in the stormy water trying to save themselves from drowning.
The people on shore heard the desperate cries for help as they watched the ship go under but they were too far away to be able to save anyone.
