While he has passed on to the Next World, the photo captures his otherworldly chein for posterity
He lived in an apartment above Yeshiva Dvar Torah, located in Yerushalayim’s Ezras Torah neighborhood, but his real home was the yeshivah itself.
Zeide, as he was colloquially known among the bochurim, attended all the sedorim and tefillos. On Motzaei Shabbos, bochurim would take out their guitars and play the Motzaei Shabbos zemiros that Zeide loved. When a boy became a chassan, he would run to share the news with Zeide, who would revel in the simchah as if it were his own. In a way, it was.
When Avrohom Elbaz was a talmid in the yeshivah, he took this picture of Zeide, engrossed in learning late one Motzaei Shabbos. And while he has passed on to the Next World, the photo captures his otherworldly chein for posterity.
