Wherever you live, you probably see trucks on the highways all the time. Have you ever wondered: What are in all these trucks? Where are they going? How do products get from a factory to a store?
Let’s look at a spice factory in the Tri-State area for example to learn how that pepper or paprika gets from the factory to our kitchen cabinets.
Spice products usually are shipped raw to theUSfrom theFar East. (The Far East means the countries and regions of eastern and southeast Asia usually includingChinaJapan North andSouth Korea Indonesia Malaysia and thePhilippines.) There they are loaded into shipping containers and put on a ship. When the ship docks in theUnited States there are customs papers to fill out and the FDA inspects the products. (FDA stands for Food and Drug Administration and it’s theUSorganization responsible for among other things the safety of medicines vaccines our food supply and cosmetics.)
