A delicious, classic dessert with a quick, three-ingredient crumb topping.

SERVES 10 TOPPING

  • 1 cup flour
  • 12 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 12 cup margarine or canola oil

FILLING

  • 3 lbs (112 kg) MacIntosh apples, peeled and sliced (about 10 apples)
  • 14 cup flour
  • 12 cup sugar
  • 14 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix topping ingredients in a bowl until crumbly. Combine filling ingredients in a 9×13-inch (20×30-cm) baking pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle topping over filling. Bake for one hour or until apples are bubbling.
