Once upon a time a shadchan touting a young woman’s virtues would extol her domestic talents: her ability to whisk through housework like a white tornado whip up delicious dinners give loving care to a brood of children. Today the shadchan is more likely to boast: “She just finished her master’s in special ed!” or “She completed a paralegal course!” Regardless of whether a husband plans to learn or earn in the 21st century a wife’s income is ever more important to finish the month in the black. What’s the best approach for a frum woman looking to get a job? Once hired how can she add value and be assured she’s compensated fairly?
