Next Monday, the Board of Regents, the independent body that oversees education in New York state, will meet for the first time since nearly 140,000 people sent in public comments opposing the new rules. One person who follows developments at the Regents’ office said he expects the board to reveal how many people supported and how many opposed the proposed changes.

“They have not formally discussed the comments yet,” said the observer. “The feeling I get is that they will be giving an update on the regulations, but not issue any definitive proposal. But it’s significant that they’re putting it back on the agenda.”
