When you’re 11, things can get tough financially. You need so many things — candies, marbles, toys — and just your allowance isn’t enough! I complained about it to Ima.
“You know Yosef Chaim ” she said “when an adult needs money he has to earn it. Maybe you could earn some extra pocket money by doing odd jobs for the neighbors?”
Hmm that was an idea. I had a few hours free in the afternoons after I came home from Talmud Torah and we had plenty of elderly neighbors who were sure to want help. Abba agreed as long as I only worked for neighbors we knew and so the next day I set off job hunting.
