Madame Chamberlaine and the Power of the Flower

My brother Donny was having his bar mitzvah and this was gonna be a triple whammy of excitement. Donny is the oldest and this meant that his was the first major simchah we kids would be participating in a full way and we sure were gonna pull out all the stops!

Madame Chamberlaine and the Power of the Flower

Us girls were busy worrying about all the usual stuff girls must discuss over and over again — y’know shoes hair dresses. Donny donned his new hat every single day to make sure that it fit right. (I grew up thinking that trying on stuff like every three seconds is something reserved for girls. Maybe I’m missing something.)

We teased him that we were going to sneak a flower onto the hatband on the night of the bar mitzvah. Oh boy the look on Donny’s face when we said that — scary stuff! So we let him be and went back to our own flowers the flowers for our hair. Shuly and I were going to wear matching velvet dresses and we would have these gorgeous peach-and-ivory flowers in our hair. The flowers had crystals and pearls and they looked absolutely stunning. I wouldn’t even think about sharing them with Donny’s hat not even for a joke.

Oh and of course Madame Chamberlaine would be coming to the bar mitzvah too.
