On the holiest days of the year, we approach the work of tefillah not as mere individuals, but as members of a flock. As we whisper and sing, beg and beseech, we’re always aware of the others standing there with us, praying alongside us. Years later, as we finger a freshly-opened machzor, images of those fellow mispallelim inevitably flood our minds: the man in the next row, the woman one table over, the people whose prayers and passion shaped our childhood understanding of what the Yamim Noraim are all about. Which members of the flock still shape your Rosh Hashanah?
