What’s your secret to keeping flowers fresh for as long as possible?

Orly from Traditions on Avenue M in Flatbush says to put some pennies into the water. They help the flowers last longer.

What’s your secret to keeping flowers fresh for as long as possible?

The experts say to change the water daily and recut the stems every couple of days. Some people say to add a little sugar to the water, I guess to “feed” the flowers. Others say to add a drop of Clorox to impede the growth of bacteria.

Tulips love cold water. Try changing the water often and adding ice cubes to it to give them back some life.

I bought these gorgeous Lucite square flower box vases. The flowers last in them for over a week.

Giving the flowers a fresh cut right before they go into the vase helps the stems absorb water so the flowers last longer. Also, change the water frequently, as bacteria tends to grow in it.
